The South Australian Government has announced it will reduce the zones for Adelaide High School and Adelaide Botanic High School, a move which Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says calls into question the credibility of Education Minister, John Gardner.
The change will mean some students previously zoned to Underdale High School, Plympton International College and Springbank Secondary College will be rezoned back to those schools after 2020.
Senator Bernardi has told ABC Radio, he has a problem with the decision which flies in the face of a commitment made by Minister Gardner last year.
Minister Gardner told Estimates on 26 September 2018:
We have no plans to change the zones at the moment. We know that Adelaide High and Adelaide Botanic High are going to be very popular schools, so that is a challenge we will look at. The Leader of the Opposition and the former deputy premier, the member for Enfield, have written to me asking for a review, and I will always take advice from my department on what is suitable on those occasions, but currently we have no plans.
