Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says he despairs at the state of Australian politics which has lost its integrity.
Senator Bernardi says Pauline Hanson needs to give James Ashby and Steve Dickson ‘the flick’ following the release of an Al Jazeera video which captured the party officials courting donations from the National Rifle Association of America.
Queensland leader Steve Dickson and Ms Hanson’s chief of staff James Ashby were secretly filmed at a meeting with an al-Jazeera journalist posing as a pro-gun activist, during which they asked for millions of dollars from the American gun lobby.
Senator Bernardi says the One Nation representatives behaved in a ‘sneaky, tricky and disingenuous’ way and only served to ‘diminish politics even more’.
Senator Bernardi has told Chris Kenny on Sky News that Senator Hanson has subsequently tried to divert attention away from the issue by claiming it was a Muslim TV network's "hit-piece" on One Nation.
