Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull believes Australia's immigration system is in great shape as he hosed down calls for a review of population policy.
Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi has long been calling for Australia’s immigration intake to be halved.
The Advertiser reports, Liberal Senator Dean Smith has written to the Prime Minister asking for an inquiry into population policy, which Mr Turnbull said he would consider in discussions with his party colleague.
Senator Smith's move is yet another example of major party MPs following the Conservative Party's lead after Senator Bernardi has done all the heavy lifting in pushing through the politically-correct lines on important topics.
Senator Bernardi has told Andrew Bolt on Sky News on top of the cut to immigration numbers wholesale reforms also need to be made to Australia’s rorted visa system.
