Turnbull government should use market forces to reduce power prices: Bernardi

May 21, 2018

With AGL Energy rejecting Federal Government calls for it to sell New South Wales’ Liddell coal-fired power station to a competitor rather than close it, Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi says there is a better way to approach the problem of exploding energy prices.

While Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Energy Minister John Frydenberg have been met with serious resistance to their proposals to date, there is something pretty basic they can do to remedy the current energy crisis.

Senator Bernardi has told Sky News the government can put out to tender all of its medium-term energy needs to the private sector instead of considering the madness of recent suggestions it should nationalise Australia’s energy assets.
