Tonight former Prime Minister Tony Abbott will tell the Sydney Institute that Australia’s immigration intake should be halved.
Such a shift has been party policy for the Australian Conservatives for more than a year now, something Australian Conservatives leader and South Australian Senator Cory Bernardi pointed out on social media this morning.
Today's The Australian newspaper reports Assimilation problems many migrants have when coming to Australia, as well as the looming economic challenges they face are potent arguments against high immigration levels.
Australian Conservatives' immigration policy has been to halve the migration intake, as set out in this policy document and stated by Senator Bernardi the day he launched Australian Conservatives in February 2017 (click here to watch the 55 second video).
Last March, Senator Bernardi asked a question in the senate about the threat migration posed to Australian household incomes.
