Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says the federal, state and territory governments need to intervene in the ongoing child abuse which is endemic to many of our indigenous communities.
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has torn shreds off Bill Shorten, the Northern Territory government and police for their "politically correct" responses to the abuse of indigenous children in remote communities.
Mr Shorten drew sustained criticism last week after suggesting that too many indigenous children were being taken from their families.
He took aim at "know-it-all whitefellas" imposing paternalistic policies on Aboriginal communities.
Senator Bernardi has told Paul Murray Live on Sky News Australians are so ashamed of what’s happening to many young Australians, there’s no real appetite to do anything about it.
