South Australian Senator Cory Bernardi formed the Australian Conservatives two years ago because he felt the Liberal Party had lost its way.
In the interview below, the ABC's Tom Switzer asked Cory Bernardi why - after leaving the Liberals during the Turnbull leadership - he would not now return after Turnbull's departure. Senator Bernardi explains that the rot had set in to the Liberals for good.
That's why the Conservatives are running Senate candidates in every state at the federal election. If the Conservatives can hold the balance of power in the Senate, we can prevent the worst of a Shorten Labor government or help a Morrison Coalition government be far more conservative.
The Conservative Party believes in smaller government, protecting families, defending our freedoms, free enterprise and a civil society.
Senator Bernardi has told Radio National's Between The Lines why the Liberals are no longer true to their original ethos.
