Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says his proposed laws which ban facial coverings at federal government-owned sites including Centrelink office, could extend to Australia’s six capital city airports and the whole of the Northern Territory and ACT.
Senator Bernardi says his legislation is designed to ensure national security and safety is paramount, while ensuring Australian values and cultural norms are respected including equality of women.
Labor and the Coalition have emphatically rejected calls for burqa bans in the past but Senator Bernardi has told Sydney radio station 2CH's Kel Richards, he's amazed at the lack of an outcry at his burqa banning bill.
