The burqa has no place in Australian society: Bernardi

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi's idea for a burqa ban in government buildings has been endorsed by former Labor leader Mark Latham who says the burqa and niqab are sexist and anti-social.

Mr Latham is calling for it to banned from all government buildings in New South Wales, along with any kind of facial covering - in a move very similar to legislation Senator Bernardi has already introduced into Federal Parliament.

Mr Latham says, “It matters to me because I worry very much about the fractured nature of Australian society. You’d think in the era of #MeToo the Lefties would be jumping up and down about it… They haven’t been.”

Senator Bernardi has told Paul Murray Live on Sky News when he initially suggested the burqa ban ten years ago, he was roundly attacked for expressing his opinion.
