The Beast Is Stirring

February 14, 2019

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has slammed Opposition leader Bill Shorten and Labor for opening up the door to people smugglers by supporting the so-called 'medivac' bill. The controversial Labor-Greens-Phelps-Hinch-Storer and other Crossbench bill passed the Senate yesterday and has now passed both Houses of parliament.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says it’s a reckless move which could encourage illegal boat arrivals and, “the great risk we’re now facing is that the boats will start".

"What my job is, is to make sure the beast doesn’t wake up, but I can tell you Bill Shorten’s given it a big poke… and he’s done it willfully," the Prime Minister said.

Sky News reporter David Speers tweeted:

Senator Bernardi told Peta Credlin on Sky News what that means.
