Storer asks crossbench to prioritise tax relief for lowest paid

June 18, 2018

Senate independent Tim Storer has made a last-ditch plea to the Greens, Labor and his crossbench colleagues to split the Turnbull government’s income tax bill to reward lower paid workers but leave higher income workers hanging.

Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi says Senator Storer doesn’t realise the economic reality that the government is simply spending too much.

Senator Storer has told The Guardian he thinks it would be “unfair” to hold up tax relief for low income earners “at a time when wages are stagnating and they struggle to pay their bills for essentials”.

Senator Bernardi has told Ashleigh Gillon on Sky News the tax reform package is all about making Australia’s tax system fairer.
