Shorten targets retirees

March 06, 2019

The Conservative Party's South Australian Senate candidate, Rikki Lambert has written an opinion piece about Bill Shorten and Labor's brazen attack on retirees:

"Who would have thought that when the federal election battlelines were drawn, retirees would be put in the firing line?

Bill Shorten and his Labor/Green socialists want you to depend on government for everything, from retirement security to every service under the sun.

True conservatives know that the cost of big government is solely borne by those who actually pay tax – because, as Margaret Thatcher said, governments have no money of their own.

The more Australians can be self-reliant, the better. Many retirees are self-reliant because they worked hard, sacrificed and saved their hard-earned income for comfortable retirement and to bless future generations.

Retirees who don’t call on the government for help should be hailed as heroes, not milked as cash cows. Governments will milk billions more through their retiree tax, driving more retirees onto the pension and expanding the socialist, big-government construct and our tax-paying children and grandchildren will pay in the long run".
