Rudd joins Trump criticism

July 19, 2018

Former Labor Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd has lined up to take a swing at US President Donald Trump following his summit this week with Vladimir Putin.

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has been a strong supporter of President Trump since long before his election to the presidency in 2016.

Mr Rudd, a one-time diplomat and Foreign Minister, described Trump as "the most unpredictable President since the birth of the American republic".

"For friends, for foes, for allies," Mr Rudd said in a speech in Sydney.

"We see that in his actions on traditional structures. We see that also in his preparedness to tear up the rules of the global rules-based order in trade. We also see it in terms of his assault on venerable institutions such as the Human Rights Council, in Geneva."

Senator Bernardi has told Sky News for Mr Rudd to level these kind of accusations at the American President is a bit rich given his own history as Prime Minister.
