Ridd exoneration a chance for proper debate on warming alarmism

April 17, 2019

Today’s exoneration of Professor Peter Ridd should lead to an outbreak of free speech on climate policy and the health of the Great Barrier Reef.

Australian Conservatives Queensland Senate Candidate Lyle Shelton said the Federal Court’s ruling that James Cook University in Townsville unlawfully sacked Professor Ridd for challenging so-called settled science is a breath of fresh air for freedom of speech.

“With Bill Shorten unable to explain the cost to the Australian economy of his climate policies, the exoneration of Peter Ridd is an opportune time for both sides of politics to consider the other side of the debate," Mr Shelton said.

“For too long counter views to warming alarmism orthodoxy have been suppressed, resulting in climate policy that is driving up electricity prices and making the grid unreliable. Scientists like Peter Ridd should be allowed to speak so that voters can question the direction the major parties are taking our nation as they both close down coal-fired power stations without replacing lost base-load electricity generation capacity,” Mr Shelton said.

“Peter Ridd’s courage should embolden dissidents to speak out against politically correct agendas everywhere,” he said.

Senator Bernardi has told Rowan Dean on the Sky News programme Outsiders, climate change alarmism is a nonsense promoted by the United Nations to ultimately give it more power and redistribute global wealth.
