In a sign that the Conservative Party power prices message is getting through to the government at last, new Energy Minister Angus Taylor told Question Time today that the Morrison Coalition government will not replace the Renewable Energy Target (RET) after 2020.
The day after launching Australian Conservatives in 2017, founder Cory Bernardi blasted the experimental politics represented by Renewable Energy Targets (see embedded video below).
The Greens, by contrast, have today reacted with outrage, demanding the target be extended.
The RET retreat paves the way for Australia to back out of the economically destructive Paris Climate Pact, something Cory Bernardi's petition supports.
The Conservative Party's policy on renewable energy states:
Ideological obsessions with uneconomic renewable technologies to meet unrealistic emissions targets to prevent 'climate change' have made our energy unreliable and expensive. Targets and subsidies for renewable energy distort the market and disadvantage consumers. Australian Conservatives are open to renewable energy as an option for electricity generation but we oppose taxpayer and cross-subsidies to support it.
