Last night the men and the women of the CFS were finally given the recognition they deserve with the state parliament passing an Australian Conservatives bill to establish a Charter for fire and emergency service volunteers.
Australian Conservatives MLC Robert Brokenshire who introduced the bill said the Charter puts in place a legal framework for the volunteer emergency sector requiring Government to actually consult with them and to work with them.
“Most importantly it means that we should never see the type of mess that was created when the Labor Party tried to force an amalgamation between our volunteer services and the MFS,” Mr Brokenshire said.
“This Charter is long overdue. It was promised to the volunteers back in 2015 when Tony Piccollo was the Minister for the sector. The charter is a multifaceted formal document supported by legislation that creates a legal framework for the volunteer emergency service sector.”
