The chairman of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation, former Prime Minister John Howard, has announced the Centre is entering a co-operative arrangement with a private college near Parramatta, NSW after the Centre was spurned by the Australian National University.
The Conservative Party has been pushing for greater freedom for private higher education providers to compete against public universities, in part because private providers enable a more comprehensive education about Western civilisation. Senator Cory Bernardi has an amendment before the senate to enable a fairer treatment of students at private universities, which will assist more young people to study outside of the overwhelmingly 'politically correct' public university sector.
The Institute of Public Affairs found in 2017 that the Centre's new partner - Campion College - was just one of three institutions covering all the essential core topics in the history of Western civilisation.
Senator Bernardi attacked the ANU for rejecting the Ramsay Centre in June on Sky News Australia channel:
Understanding Western civilisation and culture is so important to the Conservative Party, it is a headline issue in our Education Policy which you can read here.
