The Australian newspaper reports today on Australian Conservatives SA MLC Dennis Hood's move to protect our national history and heritage from vandals.
In this story, the Hon. Mr Hood said the majority of Australians would:
“... not stand for the intolerance of the enraged left. The type of lawless behaviour we have witnessed in America, and now in Sydney, is deplorable and we cannot allow a pocketful of outraged activists to dictate to the rest of society what is and isn’t acceptable,”
Mr Hood's proposal would see the maximum fine for vandalism of public memorials rise from $7500 to $50,000, or face up to two years imprisonment.
The Adelaide Advertiser reported that Mr Hood would introduce the proposals when Parliament resumed in September.
The Australian newspaper also indicated that Conservatives Victoria MLC Rachel Carling-Jenkins was considering similar proposals there.
