The Palaszczuk Government should legislate immediately to give certainty to the Queensland coal industry in the face of a NSW court’s banning of a mine because of carbon dioxide fears, according to Queensland Senate candidate for the Conservative Party, Lyle Shelton.
Mr Shelton said, “The last thing the people of Central and North Queensland want to see is activist judges in the Land and Environment Court deciding that the Paris Agreement gives them legal cover to ban coal mines. It’s bad enough that the Palaszczuk Government is using a finch to disrupt the Adani project."
“Last week’s decision by Chief Judge Brian Preston in the New South Wales Land and Environment Court has set a precedent that will only embolden anti-coal lawfare,” Mr Shelton continued.
“Queensland can’t afford to lose the jobs and the debt riddled Palaszczuk-Trad government can’t afford to lose its $4 billion a year in coal royalty tax revenue,” Mr Shelton said.
“Green-left activists are an existential threat to the economic prosperity of every Queenslander,” Mr Shelton concluded.
