Motion to abolish compulsory student unionism voted down in senate

November 14, 2017

Senator Cory Bernardi moved a motion in the Senate to show support for abolishing compulsory student union fees.

The motion read as follows:

Mr President

I give notice that on the next day of sitting, I shall move-

That the Senate supports repealing the Student Services Amenities Fee.

The motion was ultimately voted down, but we would thank the Coalition, PHON, LDP senators for their vote in support of the motion.
ALP, Greens, Nick Xenophon Team senators, and senator Derryn Hinch opposed the motion.
