A second challenge to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's leadership is gaining momentum and it's a challenge Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi hopes Peter Dutton can win.
The Herald Sun reports, the shattered faces of those who voted for Malcolm Turnbull yesterday showed they know it is only a matter of time before those determined to bring him down try again.
Indeed within minutes of MPs leaving the joint party room meeting yesterday morning, Sky News ran a screen strap saying “Dutton supporters are already discussing a second challenge”.
The root of the internal division is that a large number of Liberals always thought Malcolm Turnbull was a Leftist cuckoo in their nest — or in the words of Senator Fierravanti-Wells’ resignation letter, the party’s “conservative base strongly feel their voice has been eroded”.
One MP who supported Turnbull said on Tuesday: “People outside the party don’t understand how much these people hate Malcolm.”
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi - who left the Liberals after their disastrous showing at the last federal election under Malcolm Turnbull's leadership - says the PM is a failure.
