Calls for a blanket ban on live sheep exports are unnecessary, according to Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi.
The South Australian Senator says last week’s government announcement - that it will implement all 23 recommendations of a review into the live sheep trade - will help solve problems in the industry. These include: Reducing the number of sheep on vessels and jail time for those breaking the new laws.
Senator Bernardi has told Paul Murray Live on Sky News a private member’s bill introduced by backbench Liberal MP Sussan Ley will have little effect on an industry already in terminal decline.
