Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi has repeated his demand for Australia’s immigration intake to be immediately halved.
Senator Bernardi says we also need to ensure that Australia is in control of the visa system in high risk countries where there is corruption. Asylum, family-reunion and student eligibility for visas should be reviewed along with the qualifying criteria for citizenship.
Senator Bernardi's call for a comprehensive immigration shake-up comes on the heels of attacks on the NSW Opposition leader Luke Foley for using the phrase, “white flight” in connection with reports about the fears held by Australians living in areas of high immigration in Sydney who are being abused and threatened on a daily basis.
Senator Bernardi has told Andrew Bolt on Sky News on top of the cut to immigration numbers wholesale reforms also need to be made to Australia’s rorted visa system.
