Greens fail to act on abuse and misconduct claims

November 13, 2018

Recently-departed senator Lee Rhiannon has attacked the Greens for covering up sexual abuse, blaming sexism for what she claimed was a collapse in the party's youth membership.

Ms Rhiannon said the minor party was struggling to hold powerful men within its ranks accountable to standards of behaviour.

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has extended that attack in the Senate saying the Greens have a candidate who endorses shoplifting and another who advocates drugging women and abusing them.

The Australian reports, the Greens candidate for Footscray, an inner-western suburb of Melbourne, Angus McAlpine (pictured) fronted the rap crew Broken Aesthetiks under the stage name “FatGut’’.

One of his tracks says: “Date rape drugs in her drink then have my way” another says: “Got no class when trying to get some a***, put a rowie (rohypnol) in your glass and wait for a few minutes to pass”.

In a track on a break up, Mr McAlpine raps: “It hurts me to the end because I want to hurt my f***ing girlfriend”

Senator Bernardi told the Senate the Greens are "not on this planet".
