The ABC’s flagship radio program faces accusations of Greens bias, after it was revealed that RN Breakfast hosted double the number of interviews with Australian Greens senators this year compared with Labor senators and crossbenchers.
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi is calling for radical funding cuts to the ABC because it is, "Bloated, blatantly leftist and consistently breaches its charter". To show your support, click the box below:
An ABC submission to a Senate estimates hearing shows Labor senators were interviewed on Fran Kelly’s (pictured) program 11 times from November last year up to October, compared with 24 Greens senator interviews.
Government senators have been on air with RN Breakfast 48 times, and crossbench senators 16 times, despite their holding the balance of power. The revelations have raised concerns about the “disproportionate” ABC coverage the Greens receive.
Senator Bernardi said in reference to his lack of appearances. “I always make myself available to ‘their’ ABC but I’m obviously not on RN’s favourites list.”
An ABC spokeswoman dismissed the conservative crossbenchers’ concerns, saying the RN Breakfast figures were “out of context”.
However, as RMIT Economics professor Sinclair Davidson told Sky News Australia earlier this year, ABC staff have been found to be five times more likely to vote for the Greens than the general population.
One Labor senator said yesterday they were surprised by the gap between ALP and Greens interviews on RN Breakfast and that it was a “left-wing show”. They did not want to speak on the record, however, because they did not want to “be like Trump and criticise journos”.
Kelly could not be reached for comment.
Senator Bernardi told Paul Murray Live on Sky News last month, the ABC is a laughing stock because of its blatant political bias.
