Tuesday 18 September marks the five year anniversary of the federal government's highly successful Operation Sovereign Borders, an Australian military-led operation designed to break people-smuggling activities.
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi is moving a motion in the Senate to affirm his party's strong support for the policy and the continuation of the defence of Australia's borders and acknowledging the roles of co-author and now Senator, Jim Molan and then Immigration Minister and now Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.
The people smuggling activities principally originated in Indonesia and the operation focussed on intelligence gathering and boat-turn-backs.
UPDATE: The Senate passed this motion, on the voices, on Thursday 13 September 2018.
