Liberal Senator Lucy Gichuhi billed taxpayers more than $12000 to speak at a number of Sydney functions completely unconnected to her electorate — which is in South Australia.
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says it's another extraordinary example of politicians adopting an unwarranted sense of entitlement and further evidence that Australia needs more Conservatives elected to the Senate.
Senator Gichuhi has already agreed to repay at least $2139 in taxpayer travel allowance she used to fly her family from Darwin to Adelaide last October for her birthday.
The Daily Telegraph revealed this week that Senator Ms Gichuhi, elected after Family First’s Bob Day was booted from the Senate, took taxpayer-funded trips to Sydney the following month to attend a religious event and an African diaspora function.
Senator Bernardi has told Triple M's Luke Bona he's dodged a bullet.
