Footy poll results show opposition to political football

September 29, 2017

The Conservatives' footy poll is in, showing significant opposition to football codes becoming political footballs.

Asked the question "Should footy codes get involved in social or political campaigns?", over 96% of respondents said No.

The AFL and NRL have both attracted controversy in recent times, with the AFL briefly displaying support for the marriage redefinition campaign, and the NRL criticised for its choice of artist to perform at the grand final.

On the AFL Grand Final on Saturday afternoon, a slight majority of 51% believed the Adelaide Crows would beat the Richmond Tigers to win their first flag since their 1997 - 1998 double.

In the NRL Grand Final late on Sunday, there is stronger support for Melbourne Storm to end the dream run of originally 8th placed North Queensland Cowboys. Overall, more than 54% of respondents believed the Storm would prevail.
