After five years of Coalition government inaction on Australia's energy mess and dogmatic adherence to green climate ideology, Conservative Party senator and leader Cory Bernardi predicts today's National Energy Guarantee (NEG) announcement locks in further pain for pensioners, families and industry.
The Coalition government's smooth sales talk that adopting its National Energy Guarantee will somehow magically drive down the cost of electricity is already crumbling under scrutiny.
Senator Bernardi says the weakness of Coalition party room MPs is demonstrated by them agreeing to the NEG. The NEG will hand a likely Bill Shorten's Labor government the power to radically increase their destructive renewable energy targets when they take power. Opposition spokesman Mark Butler has already indicated he will move to raise the 26% CO2 reduction requirements in debate on the enabling legislation.
Senator Bernardi has told Sky News, if Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was seriously interested in keeping power prices low, he would get out of the Paris Climate pact.
