Euthanasia Bill is not 'conservative': Carling-Jenkins

September 21, 2017

Australian Conservatives' Victorian MLC Rachel Carling-Jenkins has rejected the Labor Government's claim its euthanasia bill is 'conservative'.

Dr Rachel Carling-Jenkins spoke outside the Parliament of Victoria today following the introduction of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill, saying “The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017 was released today. The intent of this Bill horrifying – adults over 18 will be able to access a poison or controlled substance to facilitate their premature death; up to 2-3 days if death is imminent, or within 10 days if their death is predicted as occurring within 12 months."

"Despite rhetoric to the contrary, this bill is not the safest in the world and it is by no means conservative. I will not be voting for this Bill. There is a better way for health care in Victoria.”
