Education facility decentralisation supported

March 14, 2018

The Australian Conservatives have backed calls from Mount Gambier educators to decentralise TAFE SA in a bid to empower local industries and communities.

Australian Conservatives MLC Robert Brokenshire has told the Border Watch newspaper he supports a shift towards moving the vocational educational provider away from a single administrative centre.

He said, “If elected, the party would seek a review of governmental departments to encourage decentralisation.”

“We do not have a problem with supporting decentralisation of TAFE SA as our policy will do a full review and encourage lots of decentralisation opportunities,” he continued.

“We are already calling for regional boards with health as that is part of our policy and we are not against regional boards making local decisions," Mr Brokenshire said.

“The only thing we would be adamant about is the quality and number of programs available through TAFE maintains a statewide best practice standard when it comes to curriculum and programs as you cannot have the situation where one TAFE is doing a better job than another," he concluded.
