Cotton export ban call more green-left madness: Shelton

February 05, 2019

The danger for Queensland of ignorant green-left-leaning politicians is highlighted by yesterday’s call for a ban on cotton exports.

“Unless these ideas are fought in public by principled conservatives, Queensland farming is doomed,” Conservatives Senate candidate Lyle Shelton said.

South Australian Centre Alliance Senator Rex Patrick (pictured) made the call in a dangerous play for city votes.

Mr Shelton said this new breed of green-left-leaning politician posed an existential threat to farming.

“Backed by the likes of Get-Up, these green-left leaning politicians have broken out of the Greens party, infiltrated Labor and the LNP and are now manifesting on the cross-bench," he said.

“Whether it is Liberals calling for a ban on live exports or more green tape in the Murray Darling or Labor’s tree clearing laws, farmers have never been under more pressure from politicians across the political spectrum," he continued.

“Queensland agriculture’s best hope to fight back is to sandbag the Senate with genuine conservatives who are not afraid to take up the fight to the green-left,” Mr Shelton said.
