The Senate has approved the Coalition Government's budget promise to progressively cut income tax, with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi welcoming it as a "great day".
The bill passed yesterday after heated debate and attempts by Labor and the Greens to stall and block the legislation.
Senator Bernardi along with all but one of his crossbench colleagues all voted for the Government's plan.
Labor, the Greens and independent Senator Tim Storer voted against the tax package.
Senator Bernardi says the passage of the legislation is a big win for common sense and proof that conservative consistent, principled values are essential for good government.
