The ABC is under heightened scrutiny after airing a profile on NSW Labor senator Sam Dastyari which Australian Conservatives senator Cory Bernardi has called out as a blatant "Infomercial".
The ABC rejects claims that it helped promote Dastyari's new book launch when it ran a positive Australian Story episode about the senator, despite the book being plugged six times.
"Your Antennae pricks up when you've got a puff piece coinciding with a book launch..."
Senator Cory Bernardi weighed in on the ABC's apparent favour towards the recently-disgraced Labor senator, dismissing the program as merely an "infomercial" and suggesting the public broadcaster had been appropriated as a career rejuvenation mission for Dastyari.
"Your Antennae pricks up when you've got a puff piece coinciding with a book launch" states Mr Bernardi, "...It's not unusual for people in public office to try to sanitise their history and reinvent themselves, but it shouldn't be done with the enthusiastic support of our national broadcaster."
