Convicted scam artist still operating student visa program

September 26, 2018

One of Australia's most notorious visa scam artists continues to run a business that allegedly rips off vulnerable students while he is out on bail, appealing his conviction and sentence.

Conservative Party policy is for a root and branch reform of Australia's visa system to stamp out rorts and corruption.

The ABC reports, Eddie Kang (pictured) was sentenced to 12 months in prison last year after he was convicted of 22 counts of fraud and misleading conduct, involving foreign students who had paid him tens of thousands of dollars to secure 457 visas.

The jobs and the visas never eventuated and the Korean-born businessman refused to refund the students' money.

Senator Bernardi has told Deb Knight on 2GB, migration should be about quality not quantity.
