His Royal Highness Prince Harry the Duke of Sussex and his newlywed wife Her Royal Highness Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, began their tour of Australia today.
The royal couple are principally in Australia to support the Invictus Games, an initiative supporting wounded military veterans initiated by the Duke.
Senator Cory Bernardi moved the following Senate motion to mark the royal couple's first visit to Australia together, acknowledging their work supporting veterans.
Kensington Palace subsequently advised the world - later that afternoon, Australian time - that the Duke and Duchess were expecting their first child. The Conservative Party tweeted their welcome to the Royal couple and their unborn child later that night.
Senator Bernardi's motion in support of the royal family is consistent with the Conservative Party's strong support for the constitutional monarchy, including our Action Plans marking the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the birth of Queen Victoria.
Senator Bernardi commented on SA community radio station FlowFM on the royal nuptials earlier in the year:
