Conservatives warn against Higher Ed spending surge

Senator Cory Bernardi has reserved his position on the higher education reform package, waiting to see if it includes higher costs to taxpayers.

The Australian Conservatives founder said he wanted improvements to the Bill, and would reserve his position until seeing what amendments were made to win over Senator Xenophon, who had “never seen a spending initiative he didn’t like”.

“The big problem we have is that every time the crossbench is referred to in negotiations, the big loser is the taxpayer, and I’d like to see the taxpayer end up the winner for once,” Senator Bernardi said.
