Conservative Party welcomes Aust. Space Agency based in Adelaide

December 12, 2018

The Conservative Party has welcomed the announcement that Australia’s space agency's mission control centre will be situated in Adelaide, at the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site on North Terrace in Adelaide city.

South Australian Senate candidate Rikki Lambert has told The Advertiser, "This announcement fulfils South Australia's destiny as the space state, and our state slogan should be 'Welcome Aboard'".

Rikki said, "It was never a question of if, but when, Australia would have a space agency and we can observe the other agencies' mistakes and adopt best, cost-effective practice".

But he warned, "The new agency must avoid promoting taxpayer-thirsty white elephants or would-be subsidy-based 'saviours' like Elon Musk. And Australia and South Australia must clear the red tape impediments to getting off the ground and make our state and nation the most attractive for satellite and other space enterprises".
