Senator Cory Bernardi has been a long-time advocate of banning the burqa in Australia. The senator told ABC Radio Melbourne afternoon Drive program that he was initially confronted by Senator Hanson's burqa-wearing stunt on Thursday in the Senate. However, he pointed out, there was a double-standard by those angry about the stunt.
The senator noted that there was nowhere near the same level of public fury about people dressing as nuns in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, insulting those of the Catholic faith.
