Burnt out SA police cutting short their careers

January 16, 2018

Australian Conservatives MLC and former police minister Rob Brokenshire revealed in the Advertiser newspaper today that police recruits are burning out after an average 8.7 years in the job.

Using figures obtained under SA's Freedom of Information laws, Mr Brokenshire pointed out that numerous officers had sought his help due to the stress upon them and their families in modern policing.

"This is a wake-up call to everyone that there is some real stress and suffering out there for officers”, Mr Brokenshire said, “They need more support and police work is getting more and more complicated and much harder to just go home, turn off and come back and get on with the job the next day.”
