Both sides of politics must defend religious freedom: Bernardi

May 14, 2019

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi is calling on both sides of politics to do more to defend freedom of religion, including faiths the Senator 'doesn't agree with'.

The Advertiser reports, Senator Beranrdi’s remarks come amid the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader having to field questions about Christian faith and gay rights while on the campaign trail.

Scott Morrison was forced to clarify an answer to a question about whether he believed gay people go to hell, after Bill Shorten said the Prime Minister should have immediately ruled out the idea.

Senator Bernardi says tradition and the basic tenets, on which Australia has been built, have been ‘weaponised’, and the tribalism of the left is becoming ‘very dangerous’.

The Australian Conservatives leader has told Chris Kenny on Sky News if you do not have freedom of religion, speech, and thought, then you have no freedoms in Australia, but legislating religious freedom is a tricky one.

And that is why you need to vote “1” Australian Conservatives in the Senate to help protect our freedoms (on the big white ballot paper).
