Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has been proven prescient yet again more than 21 months after saying he thought the United States could do, "pretty well" from a Donald Trump presidency.
In September 2016, two months before Donald Trump was elected, The Australian newspaper reported Senator Bernardi was on a three-month secondment to the United Nations in New York and not only predicted Donald Trump would win the presidency but also told Sky News, “I think the Americans can survive a Trump presidency and in fact they might do pretty well out of it”.
Senator Bernardi said the US-Australian alliance was strong enough to “withstand any personality”.
At the time, Hilary Clinton was leading Mr Trump across the major opinion polls.
Since then, Donald Trump has ascended to the office of President, revived the American economy, helped create almost full-employment across the United States and started negotiations for a peace and disarmament accord with North Korea.
