Barnaby Bank may not pass Senate

October 26, 2017

The Australian newspaper reports today on the uncertain prospects of the Coalition's new vehicle for delivering up to $2 billion in existing farm finance and water recovery projects, colloquially known in Canberra as the 'Barnaby Bank'.

Whilst unnamed Liberal Party sources said the bank 'stank', it was acknowledged that it was necessary to appease their National Party Coalition colleagues.

The Australian reported that senator Cory Bernardi is firmly opposed to the new 'bank', declaring it a “Barnaby bank designed to prop up the National Party”.

The report came as Nationals Party leader, Barnaby Joyce, awaits a High Court decision tomorrow on his eligibility to sit in Parliament due to him holding New Zealand citizenship at the time he was elected.
