Australian Conservatives MPs Dennis Hood MLC and Rob Brokenshire MLC continue to lead the charge to axe the bank tax, receiving further backing from Nick Xenophon Team's John Darley.
“Competent treasurers should be taking care of their own business and balancing the state’s finances rather than again hitting the people of SA for even more tax” states Brokenshire, calling out Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis.
According to The Advertiser, results of Australian Bankers Association and Sunday Mail-Galaxy poll surveys show the majority are opposed to Jay Weatherill's bank levy and believe it will ultimately cost consumers in fees and charges, as well as hurting jobs and investment in SA.
the ABA poll in particular showed 31% of people the eight metropolitan marginal seats in strong opposition to the tax and 16% somewhat opposed.
With Australian Conservatives MPs remaining stalwart in their condemnation of the tax, combined with Darley's support, it will take support of the Liberals joining them to have enough votes to stop the tax becoming law.
