Voters abandoned by the Liberal Party can have their voice heard in the Batman by-election with today’s announcement that Kevin Bailey AM will contest the seat for Australian Conservatives.
Party spokesman Lyle Shelton announced Mr Bailey’s candidacy this morning.
“We’re delighted that someone of Mr Bailey’s calibre has put his hand up to give the conservative voters of Batman a voice,” Mr Shelton said.
Mr Bailey is a distinguished Melbourne businessman, philanthropist and former SAS soldier and diplomat who was last year made a Member of the Order of Australia.
For 10 years he was the author of the popular Your Money column in Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper.
Mr Bailey said a Greens or Labor win in Batman would be a win for skyrocketing debt, soaring electricity costs, gender bending programs in schools and stifling political correctness.
“Not everyone in Batman subscribes to Green/Left political correctness. The people of Batman deserve the opportunity to vote for a better way,” Mr Bailey said.
