The Victorian Government has introduced a Bill, which if passed, will create an assisted Suicide and Euthanasia regime. The medical community is divided on the bill – some medical professionals have expressed support, while others, especially a large number of palliative care physicians and oncologists, have voiced their strong opposition.
The AMA and Palliative Care Victoria have strongly opposed and campaigned against this bill. The government falsely claims its proposal is the most “conservative” in the World. In fact, this bill if passed would see Victoria as the only jurisdiction in the World where the state directly issues suicide ‘permits’.
