The nation’s peak conservation organisation has launched a brutal, intimidatory campaign against some of Australia’s biggest companies, with members of the peak business group effectively being blackmailed over its perceived stance on climate change.
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has already called out the whole myth of fighting climate change as a dangerous cult saying nothing we do to mitigate climate change can make any appreciable difference to the world's climate.
The Australian reports, the Australian Conservation Foundation blames the Business Council of Australia for developing the phrase “economy wrecking” — a cornerstone of all common sense arguments against tougher action on climate change — and has threatened the business group with a repeat of the lobbying effort that forced BHP and Rio Tinto to desert the Minerals Council over coal.
In an email to BCA chief executive Jennifer Westacott last week, ACF chief executive Kelly O’Shanassy warned of her group’s “intent to hold the BCA to account for its climate statements”.
Ms Westacott last night accused the ACF of running “a deceitful campaign” and in a letter to BCA members, said the organisation’s longstanding position was to “support action on climate change, as well as solutions to lower power bills and ensuring a reliable energy supply”.
“Campaigns like the ACF’s do nothing to actually resolve the real issues facing Australia,” Ms Westacott said.
