So ran the headline in a Sydney Morning Herald article last weekend. A headline that shocked Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi who yesterday spoke in support of a motion by Senator Barry O'Sullivan attacking late-term and gender-selective abortions.
Advances in science and technology mean Australians are now able to find out the sex of their baby from as early as 10 weeks, via a blood test that also screens for chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome. Others may find out their baby’s sex during an ultrasound around the 12-week mark.
It seems many Australians, mainly immigrants are keen to follow in the footsteps of China and India, where abortion of female foetuses is a well-identified problem.
Senator Bernardi has told Paul Murray Live on Sky News he's appalled at the lack of outrage by the left, at the whole issue.
