Bernardi asks government how many genders they consider exist

May 31, 2018

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has used Senate Estimates hearings this week to ask the Coalition government how many genders they acknowledge.

While hearing government minister Mathias Cormann as part of the Senate Standing Committee on Economics, Senator Bernardi asked “How many genders does the government consider exist?”

“Facebook says there’s fifty,” he continued.

Cormann, the government’s leader in the Senate, said he was aware of two before declaring he would take the question on notice.
